Naptrapped

Naptrapped

Welcome to the first episode of Mom Musings!

Perhaps you're a mom who's feeling like you've got a hundred things to do on your list but you can't because baby is sleeping oh so peacefully on you and there's no way you're going to put that baby down in the crib when you've just spent a good quarter of an hour getting baby to finally doze off to dreamland.

I see you. I've been there. In fact, I made this Manga comic while I was naptrapped. Just me, my phone, baby on the breast late at night trying to keep awake because I still need to put the dishes away and waiting for baby to go into deep sleep so I can slip away.

Deciding against my usual binge, not liking feeling so trapped and itching to be creative, I asked myself, "Can I make a manga without drawing with nothing but my phone and thumbs?"

Why bother? Oh but the implications. If I could do this, it meant tasting that delicious "I did something worth while" bit of cheese (yes, I love cheese!)

I wanted to encourage the moms who are making the same sacrifice. I want you to know, even if you do nothing but cuddle that sleeping babe, you've already accomplished something that is actually a big deal—literally. Your heart beat is helping that baby sleep. Ask Google. Your breathing is synchronizing with your precious.

Ignore all the little voices saying you've got to do more. You're exactly where you need to be.

Twenty minutes later I marvel at what I could accomplish with my manga stickers and Canva. Oh, it was not without pain (more on my carpal tunnel story in the episodes to come). But now I know, we might be constrained by limitations but that does not mean we are powerless.

Cheers!
